Increasing the Minimum Wage

01/13/2014

Nearly all polls show strong support for providing a wage floor for those who work. In the latest Reason-Rupe poll, 73 percent of respondents said the government should set a minimum wage, while 24 percent said the government should not. In the poll, 72 percent favored raising the current federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour. In another question in the poll, 38 percent still supported raising the wage if it caused some employers to lay off workers or hire fewer workers, while 57 percent were opposed.
