As Americans prepare to observe the fifth anniversary of the Iraq war on March 19, the polls reveal a complex mix of attitudes. According to the Gallup Organization, 59 percent of Americans say that sending troops to Iraq was a mistake, a significant increase over the 23 percent who said so in March 2003. Still, Americans believe progress is being made, and only about 20 percent want to remove American troops immediately. Tomorrow’s DataPoints will explore attitudes about the surge.
