In a new Pew Research Center poll, 47 percent of Americans said the Democratic Party would do a better job “making wise decisions about what to do in Iraq,” compared to 37 percent who said the Republican Party would. Democrats have held the lead on this question in five Pew polls since July 2004. But when asked in February which presidential candidate would “best handle” the situation in Iraq, Republican John McCain led both of his Democratic rivals.
