When it comes to approving of their children’s marriage choices, most Americans leave politics behind. According to a recent Polimetrix poll commissioned by The Economist, 69 percent of Democrats and 66 percent of Republicans said that they would “not be upset at all” if their son or daughter married someone from the opposite party. When YouGov posed a similar question in Great Britain, 73 percent of people who identified with the Labour Party and 83 percent of those who identified with the Conservative Party said they would not be upset if their child married someone from the opposite party.
