Yesterday marked the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth. In a new Gallup/USA Today poll, 22 percent of Americans rated Lincoln as America’s greatest president, second only to the percentage who indicated Ronald Reagan (24 percent). (An equal 22 percent of Americans rated John Kennedy as America’s greatest president.) Views about Lincoln were bipartisan and shared across generations. Republicans rallied heavily to Reagan, pushing him to the top.
