Americans are skeptical that diplomacy and sanctions can stop Iran from continuing to work on a nuclear weapon. Thirty percent of those polled in a March 2012 Fox News poll thought diplomacy and sanctions would stop Iran, up slightly from 25 percent in February 2010. A solid majority in the new poll said it would take military force to stop Iran from working on nuclear weapons.
When asked by the Pew Research Center whether they worried more that we will take action too quickly, or that we will wait too long, 34 percent of respondents were more concerned that we would take action too quickly, and 54 percent that we would wait too long. Those results were virtually identical to 2006 Pew results.
