United or Divided States?

In a December Pew Research Center poll, 80 percent of respondents said the country was more divided politically than in the past. In a separate question, 60 percent said people they know are more divided politically than in the past. These were the highest responses on these questions since Pew began asking them in 2004. In a November Gallup/USA Today poll, 69 percent of respondents said Americans were “greatly divided” when it comes to the most important values; 29 percent said Americans were united and in agreement about them.
